Generic Diflucan is an antifungal drug, which belongs to a class of triazole antifungal medications. The manufacturers are Cipla / Intas / Lupin / Zenlabs.
The active ingredient is Fluconazole, which is also available as 100/150/200mg tablets for oral administration. The daily dose depends on the nature and severity of the fungal infection. In case of vaginal candidiasis, a single dose is effective. When infections require re-admission of antifungal drug, treatment should be continued till the disappearance of clinical or laboratory signs of fungal infection.
Generic Diflucan is rapidly absorbed from the digestive system, reaching a maximum concentration within 1 hour after intake; meals do not affect its absorption. The duration of therapy is determined individually; it ranges from 4 to 12 months.
Contraindications of Generic Diflucan: kidney disease, allergic reaction to fluconazole, irregular heartbeat, pregnancy, electrolyte abnormalities, breast-feeding.
In children with similar to adults’ infections, the duration of treatment depends on the mycological and clinical effect. For children, the drug should not be applied in a daily dose larger than the adults’ one. Fluconazole is used every day 1 time / day.
Generic Diflucan may interact with:
- birth control pills;
- red yeast rice;
- diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide);
- drugs for high cholesterol, anxiety and diabetes;
Use of the drug by pregnant women - is impractical except for serious or life-threatening forms of fungal infections, where the potential benefits from its use for the mother considerably exceeds the risk to the fetus.
