Generic Paxil (paroxetine) belongs to a very popular at the moment medicines group of antidepressants. This medication is a powerful antidepressant mechanism, its action is to inhibit the reuptake of neurons in the brain neurotransmitter serotonin, known as the "happiness hormone". It is used for treatment of depression and other psychological pathologies.
Paroxetine is a powerful and selective inhibitor of the reuptake of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, serotonin). It is considered that its antidepressant activity and efficacy in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive (OCD) and panic disorder is caused by specific inhibition of the reuptake of serotonin in the brain neurons.

Usually this medication is associated with gain of the weight and risk of getting withdrawal syndrome. It is contraindicated to persons under 18 year old and pregnant women.
In the treatment of depression the course can last several months, in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder - even longer. Generic Paxil should be consumed until the complete disappearance of all symptoms. Antidepressant should be taken once daily in the morning during a meal. The medicine should be taken with water, swallowing the tablets without chewing.
- Simultaneous MAO inhibitors and the period of 14 days after their cancellation (MAO inhibitors should not be administered within 14 days after the end of treatment with paroxetine);
- Concomitant use of thioridazine;
- Hypersensitivity to paroxetine and other ingredients.
